The Solution: |
Green issues |
EVs are significantly greener than traditional vehicles. Road travel makes up almost
20% of the average person’s Carbon footprint [Source: Carbon Calculator], but a recent
BERR and DfT report stated that EV use leads to a 40% emission reduction per vehicle,
even if the electricity is generated by the UK’s aging coal fired power stations [Source:
Oct 2008 report jointly produced by Arup and Cenex for the UK’s Department for Business
Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and the Department for Transport (DfT).
At Reuben Power we expect that electricity will be made cleaner and greener as the UK
generation mix diversifies and clean technologies are implemented. As the mix gets
greener and the grid smarter, so the carbon footprint of an EV will improve beyond this
figure.
